Walking (while hunting) along snow mobile road on the ridge line of the
Wenas Mountains (west of Yakima) between Cultus Hole and Darland Mountain
on November 13, 1987, the sun broke through the low hanging clouds and I
stopped to admire the view of Goat Rocks to the west. A adult white
morph Gyrfalcon suddenly pumped into view and landed in the top of fir
tree down slope from my position, at eye level and less than 100 feet
away. I used the scope of my rifle to study him. It was one of my
life's most memorable moments.
