This is the same man who lent his name to Steller's Sea Eagle (a very large,
gray and white raptor with an enormous beak, closely related to our Bald
Eagle); Steller's Sea Cow (a huge, seaweed-munching relative of the manatee,
regrettably now extinct); and Steller's Sea Lion (the only known mainland
rookery of which is at Sea Lion Cave, just north of Florence, OR--a must see
if you are ever in the area).
