I never realized it was called a "benchmark" bird. Undoubtedly, my
benchmark bird is the Rainbow Lorikeet of Australia. During a year long
'round-the-world trip in seventh grade, we stopped in Australia for two and a
half months. If it wasn't for those huge flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets flying
in downtown Cairns, I would not be a birder today. Thank goodness for those
lorikeets!!!!
