This morning I went out to the Hoquiam Sewage Pond to look for the
Tufted Duck...no such luck, but the raft of ~130 RING-NECKED DUCK and
GREATER SCAUP were stunningly brilliant in the sun as were the ~50
BUFFLEHEAD. Also: 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE; 15 CANADA GOOSE; 1 male
GADWALL; 23 MALLARD, mostly paired; 1 female HOODED MERGANSER; 2
AMERICAN COOT; AMERICAN ROBINS in the Red Alder stand; and RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRD heard. (Gulls not censused.)

The big treat though, was when I abruptly veered across the road to
park and look at something on the sewage pond and found myself parked
20 feet from a raggedy juvenile RED-TAIL HAWK perched on a signpost.
We stared at each other off & on for 5 minutes. Neat.
