Hi Tweets

My family and I are planning to go to the San Diego area for Spring Break
(April 9-17), and we're planning to do some birding around San Diego, including
Anzo Barrego, the Salton Sea, and Joshua Tree NP.

Can anyone recommend any special don't-miss kinds of spots to visit while we're
there? I have the latest Lane/ABA guide to Southern California, but it is
rather encyclopedic. It is hard to tell the best spots from the pretty-good
spots from the spots where one good bird was seen once using the book.

These are the species that would be life-birds for me (but I'm interested in
good birding spots generally, not just in a life-bird search) :

Mountain Quail
Clapper Rail
Gull-billed Tern
Spotted Dove
Lesser Nighthawk
Costa's Hummingbird
Allen's Hummingbird
Nuttall's Woodpecker
Pinyon Jay
Wrentit
California Thrasher
Le Conte's Thrasher

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
