Columbia Estuary Report - 03/20/2000

A single TURKEY VULTURE was seen over the Neawanna Wetlands
this morning. The first VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS I've seen this
year were along Wireless Rd. A flock of 50+ TREE SWALLOWS
were there on Saturday.

There 574 SANDERLINGS on Clatsop Beach (no Dunlin).
A NORTHERN HARRIER was munching on the remains of a
NORTHERN FULMAR.

Four COMMON SNIPE were in a clearcut above Astoria on Mill
Creek. When snipe start hanging out in clearcuts, it must
be migration...

It that time of year when birds are making funny noises.
This morning a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD was doing passably good
Swainson's Thrush wooks from a tree and a snipe-like
greeeeep in flight at the Neawanna. A Steller's Jay was
doing a pretty good imitation of the outside phone-ring from
the Les Schwaab near the wetlands.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
