ARCTIC REFUGE SLIDE PROGRAM

Award winning photographer and writer Ken Madsen, brings a
outstanding multi-media slide show to the Seattle area.
The show features stunning photography and original music
inspired by the Arctic wilderness. Depicting the unique
relationship between the Porcupine Caribou herd and the
native Gwich?in people.

The images and music for the show were gathered during a 100
day, 1000 mile journey in the Arctic, during the summer of
1998. Madsen traveled throughout the range of the
Porcupine Caribou herd by foot, whitewater kayak, sea kayak
and canoe.? Madsen?s wilderness journey begins in the heart
of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on Alaska?s Arctic
Coast and ends in the Gwich?in village of Old Crow in the
Yukon Territory.

The 125-mile stretch of coastline in the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge is the only section of Alaska?s Arctic
coastal plain not already open to oil development. The
coastal plain in the Arctic Refuge is the core calving area
of the Porcupine Caribou herd and is home to 130 species of
migratory birds, polar bears, musk-oxen, grizzlies and
wolves . This fragile and productive ecosystem is known as
?America?s Serengeti?. Please come and enjoy this wonderful
