I saw the Bufflehead/Goldeneye hybrid (known in my family as Kirkham's
Greennape) off of Ruston Way today in exactly the same place I saw him three
years ago when I mis-identified him as a Smew. He was in the company of some
female Goldeneyes (couldn't tell which kind). He was diving continuously.
We (my niece, Cyndi, and I) also saw a Bald Eagle sitting on an old post
very close to shore and an Eared Grebe (standing out from the plentiful
Horned Grebes) and a Red-necked Grebe in breeding plumage. I wish someone
would take a picture of Kirkham's Greennape and put it on the web for me!
