We have lots of cranes. I am reluctant to post the best sites because
we have 13 crane viewing busses going out this weekend, including 10
on Saturday, and don't want to chance a close photo approach that
would spook a flock so the busses don't have a good look. Generally,
the area south of SR 26 1-2 miles west of town has lots of use. The
birds at Corfu are very sensitive to disturbance. Also areas north of
Royal Lake are being used. Day roosts are established along SR 26
again at Mile Post 30 (looking south) and at the wetland between that
point and the Adams-Grant County line, as well as near the wastewater
treatment plant, which is off-limits except for the crane viewing
busses.

We have lots of spring arrivals, including an avocet this morning,
three species of swallows last week, lots of shrikes and curlews. See
you at the festival.

I guess I better clarify my previous message. I've got all the information
on the festival (if anybody else is looking for it check this web site:
www.othello-wa.com). We are mostly planning to bird the area on our own and
was wondering where the cranes have been congregating - Randy has posted
updates to the list before but I hadn't seen anything this spring so far.
It looks like it will be a nice weekend so I bet the birding will be super.

We've got more V-g Swallows coming through today and still some Bohemian
Waxwings yesterday.

Thanks, Charles.
