Here in Skamania County, at the 1,200 foot elevation at the West end of
the Columbia River Gorge, our first male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen by
my wife on March 6. This was a bird that apparently was just passing
through since it never visited our feeders. The first male that claimed
the feeder was on March 15th and on March 25th we had our first two
females show up. We put out a second feeder and each of the two feeders
are dropping by about a quarter cup of sugar water per day. We see
several birds fighting at each feeder so they appear to have returned in
force.
