We had nets up at the Neawanna Wetland Preserve hoping to add
data to our picture of hummingbird use around the banding station.
(see: http://columbia-pacific.interrain.org/ahscience/humm/lek.html )
We caught 4 males and 1 female.

Steve Warner and I spent a good part of 3/24 watching Rufous males
(n=3) feeding in stamenate Hooker Willow (Salix hookeriana) at the
banding station. On several occasions we observed individuals
picking insects, but they also seemed to be exhibiting behaviors
indistinguishable from nectaring behaviors.

The female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is still regularly visiting my
feeder in spite of the objections from the territorial male
Rufous. 2-3 males are still turning up on daily counts, but
the spike of females reported last week has passed.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
