I drove the Wenas Road today and much of the road is pretty 'disturbed' due
to heavy equipment. They seem to be laying cable along the whole road. Don't
know how long this project will last.
Out in the shrub-steppe, migration is underway with large numbers of Robins,
Dark-eyed Juncos, and a few Townsend's Solitaires. Vesper Sparrows are
singing, but no Sage Thrashers as yet. Both bluebird species have arrived in
full force!
On Maloy Rd. (near the junction of Audubon Rd, Umtanum Rd., and Wenas Rd.), I
had Pygmy Nuthatches and a White-headed Woodpecker.
Early wildflowers are abundant along the Yakima Canyon Rim and other
shrub-steppe areas- Sagebrush Violets, Buttercups, 5 species of Lomatiums,
Hooker's Balsamroot, Gold Stars, Grass Widows, and Prairie Stars. The show is
on!
