I was surprised to see that Ross's Geese were so unusual in Washington.
There must be numbers of Ross's moving through parts of the state from their
wintering grounds to the south (eg Salton Sea, Sacramento R., etc.) I've
seen good sized flocks at Malhuer. Do most of these migrants birds sneak
through Washington during migration undetected (some must be migraing
inland?). Anytime we find Snow Geese in Idaho there is a reasonable chance
to find a few Ross's mixed in - even in small flocks. Several falls ago I
found a decent sized flock of Snow Geese (several thousand) near
Grangeville, ID w/ perhaps 10 or more Ross's Geese included - this is just a
bit southeast of the ID/WA line.

BTW recent reports from southeast Idaho indicate 25-30 thousand Snow Geese
plus 10 thousand or more Pintail are staging in the area around Idaho Falls.

Thanks, Charles.
