Hi All,
Don't make me choose between two wonderful birds that are both dear to my
heart, you guys! However, American Goldfinch is the official state bird of 61
other states in this country, and that is a direct result of legislative
ignorance and lack of appreciation of birds. Being so recent, we couldn't
possibly have been first, so we must have stole it. With over 750 birds and
something less than 150 states (I've never counted) there should be enough for
each one to have it's own bird. The political fight would give birds some
much needed publicity and would give newspaper copy editors a chance to write
puns. The Varied Thrush would be unfair to Eastsiders. So Let's coronate
Violet Green Swallow, and let's do it soon, say in the next legislative
