John Chapman writes, "Personally, I am disappointed that there is only one
state with a gull as it's State bird, and that's Utah. Doesn't
the Mew Gull at least deserve a state?"

Being from Utah, I can also say that it may be the only state with a really
good reason for selecting their state bird (major role in saving the
pioneers from a cricket infestation). Which just makes choosing a bird
because it's pretty seem really frivolous... Yes, let's go for something
that has some connection with the state.

And while we're changing state birds, can we change the name of the
California Gull so that Utah won't have to be embarrassed by having the name
of another state on it's well-selected state bird?
