Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday May 4. If you have anything to add call Harry

A breeding plumaged adult LITTLE GULL was near the Bullgate Campground at
Summer Lake April 30.

A red plumaged RUFF was reported April 30 from the White Lake Unit of
Lower Klamath NWR. The next day two RED KNOTS were seen there.

On May 3 a probable MANX SHEARWATER was seen with large numbers of SOOTY
SHEARWATERS and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES off Boiler Bay. Two COMMON TERNS
were there April 28.

The BLUE JAY wintering along Indian Ford Creek, north of Sisters,
continues to be seen.

The spring migration is at its peak now with most expected spacies being
reported, including BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, WESTERN TANAGERS, and
BULLOCK'S ORIOLES. CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS were reported during the week
from Cottage Grove, Philomath, and Silverton.

A BRWER'S SPARROW was near Brookings April 30. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER
was near Pistol River April 29. Four GOLDEN-PLOVERS were with 295
WHIMBREL and other shorebirds near Cape Blanco May 2. A SWAINSON'S THRUSH
was at New River, south of Bandon May 1. A RED KNOT was on the North Spit
of Coos Bay May 2. The day before three were at Siletz Bay.

The offshore boat trip out of Newport April 29, found two LAYSAN
ALBATROSS among the 116 BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS and many shearwaters and
storm-petrels. Only one FULMAR was seen. Single POMARINE and PARASITIC
JAEGERS, and 83 RED PHALAROPES were also seen.

The two BLACK-NECKED STILTS continue to be seen at Ridgefield NWR. The
SAGE THRASHER is still at Clark College in Vancouver, and another is now
at Steigerwald NWR near Washougal. On April 30 two WHITE PELICANS were in
the Cunningham Lake area of Sauvie Island.

A LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was north of Baskett Slough NWR April 26. A GOSHAWK
was over Eugene April 30, and a PRAIRIE FALCON was just south of Fern
Ridge Reservoir April 29.
