I'm turning into a birder, slowly at first and then
with greater speed. I started to please my mom in WI,
give us something to talk about. Same thing with
buying good bins: maybe she'd want to upgrade her
old pair. Go on fieldtrips, tell her what I saw.
Seemed to tickle her. But now I'm starting to
evaluate every place I go as to its birding capacities.
I buy books on the specific locations. I bird three
different locations coming back from doing some work
in Centralia (new sites, all involving map work and
driving mistakes). The more I do, the more I want to do.
It's chronic, I think, and I'm happy to be stricken.

Anyway, saw a Green Heron at the Tumwater Falls State
Park, at the end of the falls, on the left. What a
beautiful place! Anybody know if American Dippers
really visit (per the South Puget Sound's Best Places
to Birdwatch, www.audubon.org/chapter/wa/bhas/peep.best.htm)?
