The Whooper is a good idea too - and maybe it would help make
it a more of a point of pride in Texas to save them if they
are the state bird. Maybe every state should have an endangered
state bird.

As for the Whooper population, I believe that there is also a non-migratory population that has been established in Florida, and possibly one farther north. I have an article about it in a recent
magazine - I'll look it up and report back.

Shoot, I think Texas should trade the Mocker for the WHOOPING Crane, as (I
may be wrong, help me out, crane folks) I believe Aransas NWR in Corpus
Christi is the only place they nest in America.
Now THERE is a regal and noble bird.
Although, I have to admit, I'm a crane fan ............so maybe I'm a bit
biased.
