Hi,

My Calculus class was cancelled this morning, so I got
an extra long walk through Shoreview park. I spent
just over three hours birding this morning and walked
up Boeing Creek, into Boeing Creek Park, and through
parts of Shoreview I don't usually take the time to
see.

The highlight was a singing DUSKY FLYCATCHER. It was
sitting in an alder near the Shoreview parking lot,
north of the tennis courts, not far off the trail that
heads up the hill. I watched the bird for about 25
minutes, alternately giving its charcteristic de-hic
and soft "wit" calls. An off leash dog then came up
behind me, barking. I looked back over my shoulder to
see who was coming, and when I looked back, the bird
was gone. Spooked by the people with their dogs off
leash. The man then said to another dog walker that
he had run into animal control over at Boeing Creek
Park, so he came over this way to let his dog off
leash...arrgh.

RED CROSSBILLS are still throughout the park and are
being quite vocal. I haven't seen any fledglings yet,
but they are obviously nesting.

I had lots of other birds for the first time this
spring in the park. A really good morning overall, 67
species. My list is as follows.
