You are right to question me since I am so new to this
hobby! I meant White-Throated Swift, and that's certainly
what they looked like to me, and what was mentioned as
being expected, in the Guide to Bird Finding in Washington.

As for the Gambel's Quail: they all seemed to have that
dark spot on the lower breast. But you know, now that I've
looked at my birding guide again, I see that the California
have the scaled breast, which matches what I saw, so I was
wrong in calling them Gambel's! Thanks for your help!
