I went down to the ponds tonight. Met Tom Aversa just as he was leaving.
He saw the Wilson's Phalarope that I probably saw 4 days ago, but I couldn't
locate it tonight. First arrivals for me this spring were about a dozen
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, WILSON'S and YELLOW WARBLERS.
Many Butterbuts have been present the last 2 or 3 weeks. There were
hundreds of Swallows of all species except bank. Found Killdeer and
Red-Winged Blackbird nests with eggs. WESTERN SANDPIPERS, which numbered
in the 100's a week ago were down to less than 10 tonight. One DUNLIN and
one SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER. There are several broods of Mallards on the
pond. Altogether got 40 species tonight, with Bald Eagle as the only
raptor, and no gulls. My list for the last 2+ years for the Sewer Ponds is
now at 119. Not as good as Michael at Marymoor, but he has a larger area,
more varied habitat, and has been at it longer.
