I've a pair of Evening Grosbeaks coming to my feeder, they've been here for about a month or so. It's true that they are irruptive. I can go for a couple years without seeing them, and then one spring my feeders are inundated with two dozen of them. They certainly are nice birds.
I amaze my non-birding co-workers when we're outdoors on Ft. Lewis, and I'll stop and say, "Listen, there's an Evening Grosbeak." That's cheating, I know...there's nothing more distinctive than an E. Grosbeaks' whistle...but they think it's magic. Or else they think I'm lying, who knows........ ;-)
