Hi Tweets,
Rick Romea, Barry Levine, and I birded down to Ocean Shores on Sunday in
beautiful weather. We ended up with about 100 species for the day.
Highlights included:
- a steady stream of Common Terns actively feeding and flying north past the
Jetty (100's of individuals) in the 30 minutes we spent there.
- a Semipalmated Sandpiper at the base of Damon Point
- a pair of Pectoral Sandpipers (male/female) at the southern end of the
Damon Point pond
- a male Wilson's Phalarope at the south end of the pond also, feeding on
the grass by "weaving and bobbing" in a roughly circular pattern, recalling
their in-water feeding style.
- a Horned Lark in song and courtship flight over Damon Pt.
- good numbers of Blue-winged Teal in many places
The road closure at Damon Point is wonderful. Folks now have to walk in, so
the hominid numbers out on the dunes are down even on a sunny and warm
Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, they may be planning to repair the road
yet again based on a public notice board.
Good birding.
