Went for a walk by the South end of Greenlake and lower Woodland
Park on Sunday Afternoon. Nothing spectacular, but there was a
WILSONS WARBLER in the Willows at the south end of the lake, and
a pair of WESTERN TANAGERS at the edge of Woodland park, just
across the street from the Aqua Theater.
I was wondering if anyone out there knew what happened to the rabbits
at rabbit hill in Woodland park. On Sunday there was nothing there
but dozens of aggressive Eastern Grey Squirrels, a few crows and a
rat. No rabbits at all. My wife has been by three times in as many
weeks and found only one or two rabbits. Has a disease run through
the population (which wouldn't be surprising, considering the
density)? Or some sort of control program? I know that they aren't
exactly the most wild of populations, but it's a great place to bring
a small child.
And for all those folks getting rid of Barn Swallows and Cliff
Swallows well shoot, send them my way. I haven't even gotten
Chickadees to fill the nest box we put out for them, and the House
Finches nesting in our neighbors potato vine on the side of their
house seem to have given up. Too many starlings, house sparrows and
crows from all of the leftovers at Dicks, I guess. Oh well, city
living.
