Hi Tweets,
This happened at a small lake near our apartment complex.

This female Mallard was hatching eggs since 3 weeks. Yesterday when I
returned home I found remains of one of the eggs lying around her nest.
Periodically she was leaving her nest and chasing other ducks also. Again at
night around 11.00pm she was shouting away from the nest, but there were no
other ducks. I did checked the nest and surroundings, there was nothing like
any predator. Full night she was shouting. Early morning when I checked the
nest, only shells were remaining. As I was observing her from our window,
she picked up the last remaining egg and ate its remains.

We do not have any racoon, all eggs shells were just in the nest.
Though I don't know who destroyed the first egg, I am sure that she herself
destroyed the remaining eggs.
What bothers me is for what reason she did this ?
