Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday May 18. If you have anything to add call Harry

On May 14 an EASTERN PHOEBE was west of Fossil along Highway 218 at the
John Day River.

An EASTERN BLUE JAY was at a feeder 6 miles SW of Philomath May 15, but
left the next day.

A TUFTED DUCK has been in the River S Unit of Ridgefield NWR since April
15. It was still there last week-end. An INDIGO BUNTING visited a
Hillsboro feeder May 16, but did not remain. A pair of ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAKS were reported May 14 from the Sunnyside area of SE Portland.

Heavy migrations continued through the week with good movements of
SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, many reports of REDHEADS, and a number of RUDDY
TURNSTONES along the coast. There were numerous reports of WILSON'S
PHALAROPES from the Willamette Valley with indications of nesting in some
areas.

A RED KNOT was at Gold Beach May 12, and 4 were at Tillamook Bay May 13.
A COMMON TERN was at the mouth of the Siuslaw River near Florence May 13.
A RED PHALAROPE was on the shorebird flats at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River May 13.

A BLACK TERN and a number of YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at Ridgefield
NWR during the week. Large numbers of BULLOCK'S ORIOLES are now on Sauvie
Island, and on May 14 four GREAT EGRETS were on the east side of the
Island. On May 11 a TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW were at
the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. A BLACK-NECKED STILT and four
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were reported May 13 from the Tualatin NWR near
Sherwood.

On May 13 a BLACK TERN, 3 FORSTER'S TERNS, and 2 EURASIAN WIGEON were at
Ankeny NWR south of Salem. An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at Detroit
Flats, in the Cascades east of Salem, May 15. Another was at Fern Ridge
Reservoir the same day. Four BLACK TERNS were at Fern Ridge May 13. A
CLARK'S NUTCRACKER was near Coburg May 13.

A BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was at a feeder near Sutherlin May 16. A
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at a Grants Pass feeder that day.

On May 13 a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was on the Little Deschutes River along
Lower Bridge Road west of Terrebonne.

Two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were at Malheur
NWR during the week. A LEAST BITTERN was heard calling at Benson Pond on
the refuge May 14. A WATERTHRUSH was at Fields May 12, and a REDSTART was
there May 15.
