Hello Tweets,
Today Dave Hayden, and my mother and I birded mainly the River S Unit of Ridgefield NWR in Clark Co., with a fairly quick walk through the Carty(N Unit), just north of Ridgefield, as we had isolated rain showers all day, being heavy at times, with partial clearing on occasion. 91 species were observed all day, including species seen at a stop on our way home at the Centralia Steam Plant in Lewis Co, E of Centralia, despite the relatively persistant showers, and wind at times. The best highlight of the day was an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, that only my mother observed at 9:30am, probable evidence of local breeding, as Dave and I scouted the road to the maintenance area. The bird was harrassed by a Red-tailed Hawk, and was never seen again, as it probably perched tight in the dense cover along the slough. Other highlights, with a few in notable numbers as follow(s):
