While visiting the Kent Ponds (GRNRA) on Sunday, May 21, we meet a
birder carrying a mangled catfish about 8 inches long. He reported that
a Red-tail had been harassing a Peregrine and that the falcon had dropped the
catfish. We were wondering how Peregrines catch fish?
Later in the afternoon we observed an Osprey carrying a fish. A female
Peregrine began to dive bomb the Osprey, then came up under the Osprey
turning
upside down, grasping for the fish. We were too far away to see it she was
successful, but the observation perhaps answers the question. The Peregrine
then landed in a nearby dead tree.
