hi tweets
just back from the fill where kathy ehrenberg, alan roedell and myself were
able to get great looks at the western kingbird on the main pond. much
thanks to BRUCE JONES for wandering into seattle audubon office this morning
to let us know about it. we also ran into debra wisti-peterson at the fill
who saw the kingbird, as well as two green herons that we, alas, missed.
she was leading around her zoology class, and they sure looked tortured!!!
(not). i wish i had had classes like that when i was in school....

anyway. we saw the kingbird initially on a snag along the slough just west
of e5 parking lot. debra had seen it closer to shoveler pond working the
brambles. the really interesting thing about this bird is how low she was
feeding. she was on quite a low perch, and then kept flying down over some
plants. she was flying much more like a slow hummmer rather than a
flycatcher. whatever....

hope she finds lots of yummy bugs so she'll stick around
