I've seen lots of hummers bathing, but the most spectacular has to be in
Belize, where we watched what I seem to remember was a Purple Crowned
Fairy -go up and down and splash repeatedly. What was so memorable was
the setting and lighting. It was a small stream in the "jungle" so it was
actually quite dark. But our guide, Barry Zimmer, knew how to please the
punters: He had brought along his high-powered flashlite and when we were
in place he turned it on, even though it was broad daylight. There was a
group sucking in of breath - OOOHHH and then AAHHH as the hummer
sparkled and flashed his colors.
