Columbia Estuary Report - 11/5/2000

There were still 3 STREAKED HORNED LARKS on the river beach
at SJCR. A single BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was on the shorebird
pond and a very dark PEREGRINE was in the area.

Todd Thornton and Steve Warner found a SWAMP SPARROW at
the Warrenton Sewage Ponds. One or two SWAMP SPARROWS have
been making intermittent appearances at the Astoria Airport
Mitigation site throughout the week.

A flock of 25 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE has been at Wireless Rd.
all week.

Bucky Barnett reports the return of winter ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS
to his feeder. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was there on Thursday.

WHITE-TAILED KITES continue at Chinook Valley, Pacific Co., WA.

It's weird-looking winter gull season with two curious critters
staking out the viewpoint parking lot in Hammond.

The ugly gull has so far been speculated to be:
1. some sort of hybrid
2. looking kind of like a SLATY-BACKED GULL
3. Westernxsomething

The lines are still open...

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
