Hi Tweets,

I called this into the Birdbox last night but I
thought I'd pass it on to those of you who don't check
it regularly. I went to Spencer Island yesterday
evening to look for the Red-shouldered Hawk. I did
not find it in the usual spot north of the barn, but
instead heard it calling from an area west of the
slough and south of the barn. I headed south on the
paved trail (before you cross the slough) to look for
it. I was about 300 yards south of the bridge when a
very large accipiter landed in a tree on the opposite
bank of the slough. A quick check of it in my bins
confirmed that it was an immature goshawk. I watched
this bird closely for about 20 minutes as it moved
around in the trees. It finally made a nice dive at a
passing Green-winged Teal, complete with a twisting
manuever to face in the same direction as the duck and
take it in one motion. After this initial miss, it
pursued the duck in a tail chase heading south down
the slough.

By this time, it was 5:00 and too dark to look for the
Red-shouldered Hawk.
