I got to see an adult BALD EAGLE eat his lunch today, something I've never
seen before, I think it was a salmon, but I'm not sure. I was doing my
morning walk at the Locks and Commodore Park, I was down by the beach in
the park when the eagle flew low over the railroad bridge, and swooped down
between the tie-off wall and the shoreline right below Hiram's and came up
with something. It sat on the tie-off wall, much to the consternation of the
gull, crow, pigeon and duck population and ate. There was a small ledge or
pipe blocking my view of what it was eating so I didn't get a clear view. It
got quite agitated at the crows diving at it and walking around its
feet.After about 20 minutes it flew off to the west and the crows and gulls
finished off the remains. While the eagle was eating I'd swear the flock of
25 or so geese on the grassy slope above the beach were watching intently,
even though the eagle was on the opposite side of the canal.

The first male COMMON MERGANSER, was there with five females, and there are
now 6 male BARROW'S GOLDENEYES, I was told there are more in the area, but I
didn't see them. One GREAT BLUE HERON, One BONAPARTE'S GULL, 30 to 40 Mew
Gulls, two BELTED KINGFISHERS (They seemed upset over the eagle too.) 20
DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS, most flying by.
