Hello Tweets,
Today i made the trip alone with out Patrick to Spencer Island to find and
maybe photograph this beauty of a Red-shoudered Hawk.Cause i got lost and
had to back track from Marysville what was easy from there.I got there
around 10.00AM and was lucky to run in to a couple birders from Kalama what
this saw the bird. The trail was going south west from the barn.I did not
find the Hawk back and hiked quite way on this trail.Than i remember the
Red-shoulder Hawk was seeing mostly noth from the barn.Walking back almost
close to the barn there was this real leight colored Hawk sitting on a
tree, seeing me comming he flew of into the high trees deep in.I only had a
glimps of this bird ,but since i been seeing Red-shoulder hawks on fife
occasion i knew that is what i saw.Going back to the barn where i run in a
few other birders what this saw this bird,so we chased all on the trail to
the north, seeing the bird there for few minutes going to the trees and back
again to the barn.At one time it looked as he was catching a snake and
carrying of his prey out of sight. This bird also was verry vocal ,so Wayne
Webber told me that he first heared it calling from the trees,as he than
sweeping to the trees showing the smal size ,the long tail and and was
flying Accipiter like. The way we saw the bird it seems that it is an
immature bird.In the end as we all was standing close to the barn he was
flying again and perched close to the road for good looks,as he went again
flying to the trees with a verry loud call what could be heared a long
way.We proable could stay to it got dark to see this bird, but we all was
quite satisfied with the looks we had.And it was ealy nice to meet all you
friendly birders expecial i finaly met Wayne Webber what was a special treat
to hear him mention past sightings of rare birds.
