The Feature Birds are BAR-TAILED GODWIT, SNOWY OWL, and WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW.

Sightings for Sunday, Nov. 12

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen off the south side of the base of the
Coalport jetty, about 2 p.m. The bird was with a large flock of
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and was well off-shore.

A SNOWY OWL was along the Boundary Bay dyke, near the foot of 72nd St.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were in a large mixed
sparrow flock near 13941-40 Ave, off Nicomecl Road, south Surrey.

At Blackie Spit were the LONG-BILLED CURLEW, beginning its 9th winter there,
1 WHIMBREL, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 6 EURASIAN WIGEON, including a red-type
female.

Two EARED GREBE were west of the White Rock pier, and another EARED GREBE
was off Crescent Beach.

Five SNOW BUNTINGS were along the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, and a HERMIT
THRUSH was at Reifel Refuge.

Sightings for Saturday, Nov. 11:

A juvenile RED-NECKED STINT was found at Iona, on the foreshore at the base
of the south jetty, with DUNLIN and 6 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, at 10 a.m. A SNOW
BUNTING and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were along the jetty; 2 ANCIENT MURRELETS and
a WESTERN GULL were seen off the jetty tip.

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was again at the southwest corner of the coalport
jetty.

The first SNOWY OWL of the winter was at the unusual location of 1/3 of the
way up Mt. Seymour!

One SANDHILL CRANE and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were in a field in the 3100 block
of 34B St., south Delta; another SHORT-EARED OWL was at Brunswick Point.

A REDHEAD was at the Maplewood Conservation Area, west pond, and a
SHORT-EARED OWL was in the meadow.

A BARRED OWL was at Musqueam Park.

Sightings for Friday, Nov. 10:

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was relocated in mid-afternoon, about an hour before
high tide, in the southwest corner of the Coalport jetty, along with many
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and 3 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER. The Godwit was discovered
about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

A "HARLAN'S" RED-TAILED HAWK was flying over the Upper Levels Highway, near
Lonsdale, in North Vancouver. The bird was heading east, pursued by crows.

The female TUFTED DUCK can still be found on the Iona Outer Pond. One SNOW
BUNTING was on the Iona south jetty roadway, location not specified.

There was a second-hand report of an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, and MARBLED
GODWIT along the Boundary Bay dike near the foot of 104 St.

A HARRIS' SPARROW was at Jericho Park, with a sparrow flock, near the west
pond.

Thursday, Nov. 9:

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD in Victoria, was present for the 4th consecutive day,
south of Beacon Hill Park, on Dallas Rd., about 100 m west of Cook St. The
best tactic seems to be to go to the parking lot on Dallas Rd. and watch for
the bird to fly out in pursuit of insects. For current updates, call the

In Kelowna, the male GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE is still frequenting the Orchard
Park Mall. For current information on this bird, call the new Okanagan Bird

Locally, a BRANDT'S CORMORANT was seen about 500 m out from the Tsawwassen
ferry dock. The LONG-BILLED CURLEW and EURASIAN WIGEON were at Blackie Spit.
Eight SHORT-EARED OWLS were along the Boundary Bay Dyke, west of the foot of
72nd St.

A CLARK'S GREBE was on the Middle Arm of the Fraser River, just east of the
Coast Guard station on Inglis Drive, opposite airport gates #76 and 77. Two
SNOW BUNTINGS were on the roadway of the Iona south jetty, near the jetty
base.
