Nine birders from the East Lake WA AS went on a weekend field trip to Iona
Is., Reifel Sanctuary and 112th access to Boundary Bay on Sat. -- then to
Blaine Pier, Semiahmoo Spit, Birch Bay and the Lummi Flats on Sun. We saw a
total of 71 species for the weekend. The weather was cloudy and cold, but
fortunately no wind. Highlights included:

Snow Geese -- Iona and Reifel
Black-crowned Night-heron -- Reifel
Trumpeter Swans -- Reifel and Lummi Flats
Eurasian Wigeon - Reifel and Birch Bay
Harlequin Duck - Semiahmoo and Birch Bay
Northern Harrier -- 1 at Iona, 5 at Reifel and 4 at Lummi Flats (Hillaire Rd)
Cooper's Hawk -- 2 at Reifel and 1 at Semiahmoo
Red-tailed Hawk -- 15 on drive up to Vancouver, 1 at Reifel and 10 at Lummi
Flats (Hilliare Rd)
Rough-legged Hawk -- 1 at Iona, 6 at Lummi Flats (Hillaire Rd)
Note -- Hillaire Rd is only about one mile long where we saw
the above
20 hawks. Great hawk watching area.
Merlin -- 2 chasing large flock of Dunlin at Blaine Bay.
