This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Nov 17 (2000).

A NORTHERN HAWK-OWL is residing about 9 miles south of Colville, Stevens
Co, WA. Ken Knittle found the bird Sun Nov 12. It was seen on the 16th by
Ron Dexter and Matthew Moskwik and yesterday, the 17th by Warren Current on
his third attempt. The bird is along US 395 about 9 miles south of Colville
in the vicinity of milepost 219. It has been seen on the west side of the
hwy above the green and yellow waste management sign, 100 yards down the
road toward the waste management plant. It's also been seen along the Old
State Hwy, which lies east of the current 395. You can get there by heading
south from milepost 219 and turning left on 12 Mile Road and taking it to
Old State Hwy. Head back north checking tree tops. Also check along Slide
Creek. WA DeLorme 104, A-1.5, T34N, R39E, Sections 26 and 35.

SNOW BUNTINGS were reported from a couple of locations. In Washington,
about a dozen were along US 2 between Waterville and Coulee City, Douglas
Co, at milepost 183 on Nov 10 according to Jerry and Sandy Converse.

In Idaho, Stephen Lindsay reports a dozen SNOW BUNTINGS on the Rathdrum
Prairie north of Post Falls, Kootenai Co, on Nov 12. Also on the Rathdrum
Prairie are a couple of GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES according to Dr. Lindsay.
To get to these birds, last seen on Nov 16 by Phil Waring, take I-90 west
from Coeur d'Alene to ID 41. Exit north toward Rathdrum and go through the
traffic signals at Mullan, Poleline, Praire and Hayden Avenues and then
turn right on Lancaster. Lancaster is gravel with some snow and ice in
places. The birds have been foraging along a small cut bank halfway between
Meyers and Huetter Roads. ID DeLorme 60, AB-1.

Two CATTLE EGRETS were in western Walla Walla Co WA on Nov 9 according to
Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The birds were at Pierces Greenvalley RV Park
2.75 miles east of the jct of US 12 and US 730 along US 12. You may also
look for the birds along Dodd Road at the Iowa Beef packing plant which is
north of the jct of US 12 and US 730. WA DeLorme 40, D-1 and CD-1.

The Denny's also found an adult HARRIS'S SPARROW, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, a
FOX SPARROW, and several GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS in the park below McNary
Dam on the Columbia River at Umatilla, Umatilla Co, OR on Nov 11. Access to
the dam is off US 730 just east of the interstate. WA DeLorme 29, A-6 and
OR DeLorme 85, A-7.

Also interesting was the winter-plumaged HARRIS'S SPARROW at a feeder in
Pullman, Whitman Co, WA on Nov 12 according to Joe Lipar and an adult BALD
EAGLE cruising over Gold Hill near Potlatch, Latah Co, ID according to Gary
Qualman (sp?).
