Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Wednesday November 22. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

On November 17 a probable PARAKEET AUKLET was observed among a movement
of ANCIENT MURRELETS flying south off Boiler Bay. FULMARS and
SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS are now being regularly seen off coastal
viewpoints.

The Newport WHITE IBIS remained two days before disappearing November 16.
The Jackson Bottom BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen again November 16.

There were many reports of SHORT-EARED OWLS during the week. The Salem
Airport SNOWY OWL was last seen November 15. On November 17 one was
reported 21 miles farther south at Tangent. Another, much emaciated SNOWY
OWL, was picked in Port Orford November 19.

On November 19 a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and two LONG-TAILED DUCKS were at
Sixes River in Curry County. The same day a female BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and a
TROPICAL KINGBIRD were at Cape Blanco. Another TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at
Coos Bay November 18.

A GOSHAWK was at Newport November 17 and an Osprey was at Yaquina Bay
November 18.

Up to 71 GREAT EGRETS have been reported from Ridgefield NWR but they now
appear to be decreasing. Up to 200 SANDHILL CRANES are still in the
Sauvie Island/Ridgefield area. On November 19 two BARN SWALLOWS and a
BRANT were at Ridgefield NWR. At least five NIGHT-HERONS are now at the
North Portland roost along Marine Drive.

Up to 39 CANVASBACKS and 3 COMMON GOLDENEYES are now at the Fernhill
Wetlands in Forest Grove. On November 19 a subadult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK
was at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro.

The BURROWING OWL along 119th. Street east of Salem is still being seen.
Another was found November 19 along Smithfield Road on the north side of
Baskett Slough NWR.

At least five MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES and three ROSY-FINCHES were at the top
of Marys Peaks in Benton County November 19. A snow park permit is needed
to visit this area.

A RED FOX SPARROW was at a feeder north of Eugene November 19.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was on the Prineville Sewage Ponds November 13. The
GREAT GRAY OWL is now back at the Quail Run Golf Course near LaPine. Get
permission from the golf course office before looking for the bird.

thats it for this week.
