Tweeters,
Many of you are reporting Snowy Owls throughout the region, indicating a
food supply crash further north. While my data is much more localized
(Bainbridge Island and immediate vicinity), I have experienced an
unusually high number of Northern Saw-whet Owls so far this season. The
numbers for me for this November excede the total number of November
sightings for Northern Saw-whets in the past five years. In my four owl
outings since mid-October when the Saw-whets returned/became responsive,
I have had a minimum of 4 birds every time, and an all time high count
for me of 10 Saw-whets last week. I was wondering if anyone else is
seeing this.
