I found the Northern Hawk Owl yesterday at about noon. I had searched for
nearly three hours when I saw it perched on top of a telephone pole in the
yard at 999 12 Mile Road, nine miles south of Colville. Before I had a
chance to get my scope out of the car, it flew 100 yards south and landed on
top of another pole in a neighbors yard. The people who woned that house
were both standing by the road and waved to me as I was searching again for
it. The owl moved from the pole to the top of a poplar tree which gave us a
much better, unobstructed, view of it. The neighbor kids were pretty impressed.

We looked at the owl and talked for nearly half an hour. Nice people and
excited to have such a rare bird in their neighborhood. They had first seen
it on Nov. 12. It is an incredible bird!

Also in the area: 25 Bohemian Waxwings, 16 Wild Turkeys nearby on Slide
Creek Road, three Bald Eagles a couple of miles towards Colville and several
Northern Shrikes.

All in all, a pretty good twitch, especially since I was in Spokane for
Thanksgiving.
