Eight birders went on the ELWAS birding trip on Mon. morning to the Des
Moines Marina and Saltwater State Park. After raining all night, we were
pleasantly surprised to have a nice partly cloudy morning. We saw a total of
29 species. Birds were seen at both locations, unless noted, as follows:

Red-necked Grebe
Horned Grebe
Western Grebe - SSP
Double-crested Cormorant
Ruddy Duck
American Wigeon
Mallard
Harlequin Duck - 10-15 at DM
Black Scoter - One close in at DM
Surf Scoter
White-winged Scoter
Common Goldeneye - many at SSA
Barrow's Goldeneye - many at DM
Bufflehead - SSA
Great Blue Heron - one at SSA
Bald Eagle - one at each location
Cooper's Hawk - one at SSA
Red-tailed Hawk - two from the highway
Ring-billed Gull - DM
Glaucous-winged Gull
Common Loon - one at SSP
Northern Flicker - one at SSP
American Crow
American Robin - DM
House Sparrow - DM
House Finch - DM
Fox Sparrow - SSP
Song Sparrow - SSP
