Subject: Junk food for ducks?

Hi Tweets,

I'm in the process of writing a letter to the editor/article on why we
shouldn't feed human food (white bread) to ducks in our local ponds and
lakes, I'm specifically targeting the pond at Golden Gardens Park in
Ballard, but the info should apply to any location. I know the basics, ducks
don't eat salt, sugar or fats, overfeeding leads to an overpopulation of not
only ducks, but gulls, geese, crows and rats to name a few which can lead to
an incrase of diseases which can be spread to the migratory birds that use
the ponds and lakes in season. I'm also interested in information on excess
bread causing raised phosphate levels that can lead to algae blooms.

What I'm looking for is research data or citations on this I can quote to
make the letter sound like more than just someone complaining. Or, if any
Tweeters with "appropriate" scientific or academic titles would be willing
to be quoted on the subject that would be great. If anyone is willing to be
quoted I'll check back before I send in the letter to make sure it meets
with your approval.
