hello tweets,

I just received this message from a friend of mine who lives in
Sno County. She loves birds and wants to preserve this birding
habitat. Can you help out?

regards,

Alert for Snohomish County Birders!

Snohomish County is now processing application number 00.107495,
which is an application from KRKO radio for 8 radio antennas,
5 towers at 466 ft. and 3 towers at 442 ft, plus two buildings.
These towers are nearly as tall as the observation deck of the
Space Needle (525 ft), and are on to be built on a pasture near
the Snohomish River. For those who know the area they are located
on Short School Rd., kitty corner from Cravens Pumpkin Farm and
off the Old Snohomish-Monroe Highway.

The problem is that these towers are in prime birding habitat......
eagles, hawks and snow geese in the winter. The planner said that he
doesn't know any studies that show antennas of this size affect
birds! He also said it wasn't on the regs.

Also the antennas are considered "utilities", so they can get away
with just about everything.

Believe it or not, our best chance is that it is with in 2 miles of
Harvey Field and poses a hazard to people in the air and on the ground.

First comments are due by Dec. 6th.

No form letters, only your personal opinion based on:

1. Scenic view of homeowners ( evidently a condition in the conditional
use permit)
2. Hazard to planes and people on the ground if there were a
crash. (Valley View School is just across the river for example.)

Here are a list of items that DON'T count because it's "considered
a utility."

NIMBY
Floodplain
RF waves
Height
Environmental impact neglible
Property values

If you love birding in the quiet of the valley, if you love the river,
if you belong to a bird society ...please respond.

Also any studies on danger to birds would be appreciated.
