Hi folks,

I was in Ethel, Lewis County yesterday about 3 p.m.,
when I heard the sharp 'yelping' of small geese over
the roar of the highway.

About 8 miles east of I-5, just NE of the corner of
Leonard Rd and Hwy 12, a flock of about 300 Cackling
Canada geese (B.c. minima) circled low. About 70
birds settled out of the sky into a field of corn
stubble near a pasture full of dairy heifers.

These were the first migrant geese this office-bound
birder has seen this fall, and they cheered my heart
on a rainy day.
