Most of the shorebirds were on the river beach for today's
high tide, but there was a good mix of species. Two GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and a CACKLING GOOSE were feeding along
the margin of the big pond. Six AMERICAN PIPITS and a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR were in the salicornia. At least 9 HORNED LARKS
were on the beach. Two MARBLED GODWITS had been seen on the
beach earlier in the day.

I saw what was most probably a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER come
out of the tide channel and fly off toward the river. It
was the size of a Pectoral Sandpiper, had an orangy breast
and did not appear to have the heavy streaking typical of
Pects. Unfortunately, I did not not see it on the ground
nor did I see it in flight well enough to be certain of the
ID.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
