Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday October 5. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

The CURLEW SANDPIPER continues to be seen on the Bandon Shorebird Flats.
A RUFF was there October 1, and a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER October 3.

A possible BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW flew south off Boiler Bay September 29.
The BLUE-WINGED WARBLER that was seen all fall along Indian Ford Creek
north of Sisters was seen again September 29.

The storm last week-end brought a major flight of WHITE-FRONTED and
CACKLING CANADA GEESE and a number of SNOW GEESE. A SANDHILL CRANE was
near Cape Blanco October 4.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was in Florence September 30. The next day two
SCRUB-JAYS were there. On October 1 over 1000 PACIFIC LOONS, 7 PARASITIC
JAEGERS, and 6 KITTIWAKES were off Boiler Bay. A REEVE was at the
Necanicum River mouth in Gearhart September 29. Up to 8 LAPLAND LONGSPURS
are now at the South Jetty of the Columbia River. A WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW was in Astoria September 28.

The bright RUFF at the Fernhill wetlands in Forest Grove continues to be
seen but rising water levels may soon force the shorebirds to leave. A
RED-NECKED GREBE was on the reservoir at Mt. Tabor Park in southeast
Portland October 1.

A PRAIRIE FALCON was at Baskett Slough NWR September 30. A female SURF
SCOTER was on the Philomath Sewage Ponds October 4. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
was near Cottage Grove October 4.

About 200 VULTURES were at an evening roost near Merlin October 4. A
SABINE'S GULL was at Lost Creek Reservoir near Shady Cove September 30.
Another was at Summer Lake SWA September 29. Three PARASITIC JAEGERS and
a surprising HEERMANN'S GULL were at Lake Ewuana in Klamath Falls
September 30.

Thats it for this week.
