Here are directions to the Hayden Lake Arctic Loon. It has been very
consistent.

>From I-90, go north of Hwy 95 toward Hayden and Sandpoint. Pass the Silver
Lake Mall and Prairie Avenue. At the second right past Prairie, turn east
on Honeysuckle (Texaco on the corner) and proceed through the light at
Government Way. Honeysuckle stops when it hits 4th Street and 4th becomes
Honeysuckle to the left. Take the left toward Honeysuckle Beach. Before
coming to Honeysucjkle Beach, turn right on South Hayden Lake Drive and note
your mileage.

This road goes around the lake and is very narrow and winding. There are
few turnouts and people here do not take kindly to having you stop on the
road or in their driveways, so do not try to spot the loon from your car.
Stop at the turnouts and use caution in getting out to look.

The loon has been at a spot about 1 mile from Honeysuckle Road. There are
two "Hope Realty" signs near a turnout where I first saw it. Today there
was some roadwork going on at a turnout with a portable outhouse. Just
beyond this point is where I had a close, long look at the bird.

Stop and check out each turnout before Tobler Marina carefully. The loon
stays under for long periods of time so it is easy to miss. There is also a
Common Loon in the area so look carefully if it is at a distance.

Good luck! Feel free to call me at 699-3420 if you are having trouble
finding the spot.
