Columbia Estuary Report - 10/10/2000

BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES are now at the SJCR in good numbers.
At least 25 there on 10/3 and 10+ on 10/7. 8 LAPLAND LONGSPURS
continue at the shorebird flats.

In a display I have not seen before, 550 BROWN PELICANS were
on the west end of the Trestle Bay jetty along with 300+
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS on 10/9... makes me wonder what was
happening on Sand Island where they usually hang out.

A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD on 10/6 was the most unusual species seen
on Coxcomb Hill last week.

The RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH migration peaked this last week.
Large numbers of Myrtle-type YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS are
beginning to accumulate along the bike path from parking
lot A.
