Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This

On October 6 a female HOODED WARBLER and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER were at
Malheur NWR Headquarters. A subadult male HOODED WARBLER was there
October 11.

MOUNTAIN CHECKADEES were seen during the week at Sandpiper Village, north
of Alsea Bay; near Beaver Creek, south of Newport; along the nature trail
at the Marine Science Center on Yaquina Bay; near Lebanon; east of
Springfield; and on Mt. Bolivar in Coos County.

A 12 hour offshore trip out of Newport found a LAYSAN ALBATROSS, 7
SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS; 3 SKUAS; and large numbers of the more regular
species.

On October 6 a PALM WARBLER was near Cape Blanco. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
was there October 8; and 7 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were there October 10. An
early NORTHERN SHRIKE was on the North Spit of Coos Bay October 9.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay October 9. A
PALM WARBLER was along the nature trail at the Marine Science Center
October 11. Many KITTIWAKES and eight LAPLAND LONGSPURS are now at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River.

The RUFF is still being seen at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove,
and on October 7 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was there. A possible RUFF was
reported October 8 from Smith Lake in North Portland.

The BURROWING OWL that has wintered the past several years along 117th.
Ave. east of Salem returned October 9. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was near
Creswell October 7.
