Subject: Fw: Great Gray Owl sighting

I saw the Great Gray Owl hunting the flood plains at Newman Lake this
evening. The area is found on page 89 of your DeLorme Gazetteer T26N,
R45E, S11 and 12. The map has the word Cherokee in blue ink. The name of
that Rd is actually Hauser Lake Rd. I watched it hunting in the meadow on
the south side of this road from 5pm till dark. It was also seen by
others at noon and in mornings. It hunts from the top of steel and wood
fenceposts as well as just sitting in the meadow.

There are many Northern Harriers that dive at it occasionally.
There are also many Western Bluebirds along this road.Barn Owls have also
been seen this year hunting the large meadows on both sides of Starr Rd.

Take highway 53 to Moab. Turn N. on Starr Rd. Go N. about 4 mi. Turn E.
on Hauser Lake Rd. Search the meadow and if not seen there, go to McCoy
Rd. Go S. on McCoy 1/4 mi or so and start searching the fence posts, etc
on and around the flood plains that lie to the S. and W. Go back and
repeat or go for a drive along the lake and spot other birds, then try
again. It roosts in the trees East of the Meadow when not hunting. But
that hill is private property.

After 4 or 5 in the evenings would be best. If you want to know if it is
still around, Margo Wolf lives right there and will help you if you call
or E-mail her. 509-226-2079 or lenmargo at gateway.net
